I'm a self-taught illustrator, drawn to bizarre forms and solid shapes that imply utility. My style is deeply influenced by the exploration of the inner mind and its visualization. At my core, I'm tranquil, yet I possess an inner intensity that often radiates outward, much to my dismay.
My passion for love and unity, nature, and the beauty of machines and mechanisms deeply influences my work. These elements, to me, mirror the human mind transformed into practical art. Stylistically, my work is akin to modern Disney or Pixar, but I emphasize underlines and separate layers, staying true to my name, MR Sketch (Matthew Renna). I enjoy experimenting with hard line and ballpoint pen work, allowing the scratchiness to add texture.
I also explore watercolors, wood burning, and digital art, frequently using tools like Blender with grease pencil, Procreate, and the Adobe Suite. While I'm equipped for full productions, I find myself lacking focus. Growing up, I aspired to be a game designer but drifted away from that path due to the addictive nature of games among my peers.
Now, my goal is to convey messages about the untapped potential of humanity, challenging the illusion of our self-identity. I aim to study and draw inspiration from great masters, both ancient and contemporary, who share my passion.
Warm regards,
MR
