Hybrid Creative Technologist · Production Systems Designer
Fabricating anything starts with understanding what it's made of — and when you meet MR Sketch, it means you need something made. A decade bridging concept visualization and production-ready manufacturing — illustrated environments, signage systems, product CAD, and the spec packages that turn any of it into something a fabricator can build from.

Environmental Graphics
Curiosity Hall
A concept mockup for a layered acrylic cutout — multi-colored splatter shapes with a Wilsonart wood-textured handle, and a clear acrylic lens set between the rings for a magnifying-glass effect.

Illustrated Space
Illustrated Hand-Print Classroom Mural
A hand-illustrated classroom mural, digitally painted in a watercolor style and vectorized for a clean scalable print at any size — a chalkboard-coated section topped with a handprint canopy from students and faculty, so the piece keeps changing as more hands join it.

Brand Identity
COLO Yoga — Ru, an Animated Brand Series
A complete animated brand identity built around Ru, an original brand character representing balance and inner calm — logo, character motion, and a four-part animated short series carried from hand-drawn storyboard through finished film with original sound.

CAD / Product
Nature Camp Signage
A concept mockup for a wood- and nature-themed signage set, built as a two-layer acrylic design.

Hand-Illustrated Watercolor Assets
Watercolor Game Assets
Inspired by Caitlin Russell's incredible work on Cuphead, a self-illustrated game built on a similar watercolor asset workflow — chasing that same hand-painted, old-fashioned cartoon look.
What I do
Every project starts one of two ways: you've already got a well-crafted plan — the elements are there, and what's left is bringing them to life, with renderings and a spec package to build from — or your idea is still just a sketch, something you're passionate about seeing real, that needs an artist's nurturing scrutiny to give it shape. Either way, I work with designers on renderings and concept packages, and produce the production side myself: vectors, custom illustration, art, spec packages — everything your project needs to become real, not just approved.
Full-pipeline management for large-format signage, wayfinding systems, and environmental installations. I analyze scope, produce previz renders, and deliver every file your fabrication team needs.
Character-driven mural systems, activity boards, and learning installations for educational, healthcare, and public spaces. Design through production-ready files.
Character-forward brand design for organizations that need more than a logo — they need a visual language. Mascots, identity systems, packaging, and motion.
3D product rendering, CAD modeling, and fabrication prep — from activity signage systems and maker kits to product hardware and prototype review. STL, STEP, and photorealistic renders, ready for a manufacturing floor.
Interactive learning products and activity systems for kids — maker kits, activity signage, and character-driven educational displays, designed through fabrication-ready files a manufacturer can build from.
Custom character art, murals, personalized prints, and illustrated environments for individuals, families, and small businesses. The same standard at every scale.

The MR Sketch differenceA software product, not just a service
Drawcade is a tool I designed to bridge the gap between any drawing and a real, playable game — a five-minute doodle and a carefully rendered piece both come through the same pipeline, and the game doesn't care which one you brought. As a self-taught game developer, I was always trying to find ways to bring my own sketches to life, however rough they were. Using custom, easy-to-scan drawing guides you can capture right from your phone, you import your drawings, set the rules, and build levels to create your very own game. Tester access is now!
The illustration work above isn't separate from this — the same characters populating the gallery's illustration wing (Doc, Nala & Atlas, the Sketch Figure Battles world) are the actual game IP living inside Drawcade. It's the same drafting-table practice, aimed at a different kind of build. There are already two games to draw for, with more on the way — Drawcade is the place to give your art somewhere to live.
It's live right now in early access — sign in with your email and start testing today. Expect rough edges; that's what early access means. If you'd rather just see where it's headed first, the contact form below works too.

The real printed activity sheet — draw inside the boxes, scan it, and it becomes playable art.
...and that drawing, actually playable — real gameplay, no edits.
How it works
The process is designed around one question: what does this project need to survive contact with a fabrication floor?
Scope & Production Analysis
Before any design begins, I identify every production component — file formats, materials, dimensions, color systems, installation requirements. The creative work is built around this framework.
Concept Renders & Client Previz
Photorealistic renders and spatial mockups for client approval. You see exactly what will be built before anything goes to production. Eliminates revision cycles after fabrication begins.
Vector Production & File Build
Print-ready vector art, CNC cut files, color-separated layers, material callouts. Every file is formatted for the vendor receiving it — not just the folder I'm sending.
Spec Package & Handoff
A comprehensive spec package: dimensions, materials, finishes, assembly sequence, installation documentation. One document that serves the client, the fabricator, and the install team simultaneously.
A real spec package from a completed project — every project gets one, formatted for the fabricator, not just the approval presentation.

Who's behind this
The short version: this whole practice started as a kid, watching, and it's never really stopped being about that.
I started drawing because I watched my grandmother draw. She never looked at the paper — her eyes stayed fixed on whatever she was studying, and her hand just followed. She loved faces most, and second-guessed herself on every one, which gave her lines this beautiful, fuzzy quality: a figure caught in the haze, just barely resolving. I've been chasing that feeling ever since — the sketch as more honest than the finished thing. I still find Da Vinci's journals more interesting than the Mona Lisa.
Video games hooked me next. I was terrible at playing them, so I drew them instead — my own characters, my own levels, whole worlds built to hold every idea I had. That habit of building a complete system around an idea, not just a single image, turned out to matter later. When life got complicated, the same instinct that used to design game worlds started designing plans and structure instead — a way to make an unpredictable stretch of life feel like something I could actually build my way through. I taught myself computers and organization the same way I'd taught myself to draw. That's the real origin of the production-systems side of this studio: it's the same brain that used to map out a level, now mapping out a spec package.
Along the way I did a little of everything — carpentry, running AV wire, a ropes course, years bartending in New York City, which turned out to be its own creative education, surrounded by people chasing the same kind of pursuit. Then I met my wife, who told me — matter-of-factly, the way she says everything worth hearing — that the drawing didn't belong on the side of my life anymore. Our dog Nala came with us from New Mexico to Manhattan, and a few years later our daughter arrived and rearranged everything again, in the best way. Watching her meet the world for the first time is the best reminder I get that curiosity is the whole point.
I'm drawn to how things get made more than the finished thing itself — the process, the layers, the thousand small decisions behind a single piece. That's what I want to teach, and it's the real reason Drawcade exists: handing a kid a pencil and a system, and getting out of the way.
"Why do I draw? I don't really have a choice — it's just the action that comes out when I live and breathe."
Matthew Renna — Meet MR Sketch LLCWho I work with
From a major signage firm managing a senior living installation to a family commissioning a nursery mural — both conversations start the same way: what story do you want this space to tell?
